MATTRESS SHOPPING CAN be a lot like speed dating, and then leaping into marriage.

You go out, spend a little time with each other and – wham – you make a long-term commitment. One that can be costly, especially if the “right one” turns out to be the wrong one.

It’s no surprise that 40% of the people surveyed by Consumer Reports said they had buyer’s remorse about their last mattress. That’s almost half. Sounds like today’s divorce statistics.

As many of you know, Verlo has a national franchise system, with different stores across the country owned by local members of the community. Each Verlo franchise operates its own local factory and sells mattresses exclusively in their local mattress showrooms. Doing this ensures that our guests always have a local source for expert service, plus it helps us to reduce our carbon footprint - and no where is this more top of mind than in Colorado. In fact, our Colorado franchisee Dick Sumerfield has just been voted Best Green Products/Service of Boulder, and Best Mattress Store of Boulder.

Marital and Mattress Advice From A Verlo Employee

Disclaimer: Let me immediately acknowledge that I have no legitimate credentials for giving marital advice. But, I do have plenty of experience in both marriage and mattresses so here goes it:

It’s okay to go to bed angry.

You’ve probably heard that you shouldn’t do this, but I beg to differ. Late at night, when you’re tired and crabby, is not the optimal time for dealing with touchy subjects. It's hard to be reasonable and forgiving when you can't keep your eyes open.

2 Words for Dirty Mattress Owners: Mattress Protectors

Posted by Julie Tramonte on Apr 28, 2015 11:07:34 AM

Protect your mattress from dirt, stains and allergens associated with dust mites by using a mattress protector on your mattress.

Our last post was about spring cleaning and caring for your mattress, so I was especially interested when Dyson introduced their new handheld vacuum made specifically for cleaning dirty mattresses.

According to Dyson, the new Dyson v6 removes "dust mites and their allergenic feces" from your mattress. (Dust mite feces? Yuck!) Apparently, Dyson has an in-house microbiology lab where they breed dust mite cultures, and study dust mite behavior and the resulting allergens they produce. They've found that "powerful suction" is the most effective way to "reduce dust allergens in the mattress."

Now, don't get me wrong, we're all for clean mattresses, good hygiene and a healthy sleeping environment. And if this special mattress vacuum helps to provide that – great. But at $250 a pop? I have two words for dirty mattress owners: mattress protector.

A simple, washable mattress protector prevents your mattress from becoming a breeding ground for dust mites. It acts as a protective barrier so dust mites never even make it into your mattress (and neither does liquid.) For less than $70, you can purchase a queen-size mattress protector that will solve the dust mite problem.

And, save yourself from having to vacuum one more thing in your house.

When you think of spring cleaning, what images do you conjure up? I imagine sheets billowing outside on a clothesline, rugs being shaken and windows being washed to remove the grime of winter. Everything gets a new "lemon fresh" start. That is, everything except my mattress.
